Replace Your Air Conditioner

5 Signs You Need to Replace Your Air Conditioner

When to Replace Your Air Conditioner

When the hot weather rolls around, we're thankful that we have air conditioning units to keep us cool and comfortable. However, when our units stop working correctly, it can be frustrating. To help mitigate your frustrations, here are some signs that you'll need to look for that will let you know it's time to replace your air conditioner.

1. Lack Of Cool Airflow

One of the most obvious signs that you'll notice about your broken air conditioner is that it will stop blowing cold air. In most cases, it will just feel like warm air coming out of the vents. Airflow is one of those areas where you'll need to do a little more in-depth digging. If you're lucky, there is a clog in your ductwork or piping that is restricting the airflow. However, if you have airflow that's simply not cool, it's likely that your unit will need to be replaced.

2. Weird Noises

When your unit gets noisier, it's a sign of typical aging of the machine. Chattering sounds will let you know that the air conditioner will need to be replaced in the near future. All air conditioning units should run at a barely detectable noise level.

3. Increase in Electric Bills

While we all can fathom that the energy bills in the summertime are going to be more expensive than in the spring due to the excess use of the air conditioner, they shouldn't be overly extravagant. If you notice that your electric bill has skyrocketed from the norm, it could be a sign that your air conditioner is using more energy to efficiently cool your home. This is an early warning signs that it's time to start looking for a new air conditioning unit.

4. Excess Moisture Buildup

If you notice that your air conditioning unit is producing some excess moisture, it's a sign that it isn't operating correctly. In some cases, this could be due to a refrigerant leak that is causing your system to underperform. This can pose a serious health risk to your home and should be fixed immediately. If left untreated, your system will not only continue to underperform, but you'll be creating the perfect environment for harmful mold to grow. It's best to call the HVAC professional at Mater Mechanical to handle the issue.

There are many internal components in your HVAC system. When these parts start to fail, they can present with bad odors.
